C2E2 & Many Thanks!!

First off, I want to send out my many thanks to everyone for all their support and kind words. You all have been an inspiration and have given me courage to keep my head up. I am truly grateful to each comment, email and message I have received in the past month.

I have been doing a lot of work recently for Boom and Bongo and they have kept me on my toes the last few weeks. However, C2E2 is in less than FIVE days and I am gearing things up to be there and alive and not a walking zombie. :) I will be over in Artist Alley at table K-5 next to my girl, miss Lauren Perry, and a horde of other great people. I will be doing sketches, as well as coloring sketches with markers and watercolors. I'll attach my prices below. I will be accepting credit cards, VISA or MC. However I will only be accepting them on prints. Any sketches or colorings will be CASH ONLY. Thanks!

Getting UNSCREWED

In life it seems, we all have these moments where we are forced to grow, be strong and take on that obstacle which we may not feel ready to tackle yet. This week, I will have one of those moments. In three days, I am going down to the court of Illinois and filing suit against Devil's Due Publishing. I have been fairly quiet about it for several reasons. One being I am just scared out of my mind what people might think. However, the truth of the matter is that I did the work. I did it well. And I didn't do it for free. Yes I love coloring and I love my job, but I do it to help pay the bills and put food on my table. I am one of those amazingly, lucky people that gets paid to do something they absolutely *love*.
I'm not going to get into the nitty gritty details or start slandering anyone, even though I would be fully justified. I loved working with the people at DDP. My editors were amazing and you can't say enough good things about people like, Tim and Sam. And while doing work for them, I grew. You can't look at my first cover for them and look at the one I finished almost a year later and say, that I didn't grow as a colorist. I will always be grateful for the opportunity they gave me. However I love this industry and the fact that there are many publishers like DDP getting away with not paying the talent is just not right. And I don't understand why so many people seem to just turn their head and look the other way. It's wrong... and on Thursday, I am going to stand in front of a judge and take a stand for myself and what I believe is right.
That's not to say I'm not trembling at the thought of it. That I didn't wish they just paid me. Or that I wish someone else was taking the stand instead of me. This is just one of those moments in life, where I have to grow.. and be strong.. and pray I don't faint.

Happy Happy New Year!

Yeah, so Im a few days late to the party... It's been one heck of a year and one year since I made the switch to marketing myself as a colorist only. I haven't done all the totals yet but I already know 2009 has been the most successful year for me financially and its all been due to something I get more passionate about by the page. I absolutely love my job and I am so excited for what this year has in store. My list of cons for the year is already growing and I will be posting it soon. I also have been working with the good folks from UNSCREWED. Be sure to check out their link. They are a non-profit organization helping freelancers, such as myself, from getting screwed over by publishers, who can't seem to live up to their contracts.

Oh, one last thing! My doggie, Rogue. I've been bragging about her all day because I have successfully trained her to ring a bell to notify me when she needs to go out to do her biz. She is the smartest puppy in the world and I wums her bunches!!

Samples...

The past few weeks I have literally been sitting on a stack of inked sequential pages... all pages from artists whom I respect and well are just basically, the bees knees IMHO... Norten, Seeley, LaFuente and Igle. For the last two weeks I have been working on a few pages from PW's Hellcat Ish 4 by David LaFuente. It's been really hard. The whole point of doing these sample pages is because I get such crazy deadlines on my sequentials that I just don't feel like Im really being given the time to work on an area I am weaker in as a colorist. So between deadlining and life in general, squeezing in time and making a sincere effort not to rush and respect the line art, I have finally finished my first page. This is just the first round. Once I finish the other four, I will seek out crits and then make some adjustments and send them on forth. Yay! BTW, a huge thanks to David for letting me work on these... I was seriously beside myself with happyness when he sent them. :)
